Eric Goldberg Master Mentor

I know other people have posted about this, but I feel a need to spew my thoughts.
First of all, it's about time. Anyone familiar with animation knows Eric Goldberg, or at least his work. This guy is about as close as you get to a modern day Chuck Jones or Tex Avery. There have been copies of his animtion notes floating around the intarweb for years. His insight into animation is comical, unique and inspiring. I can't say how absolutely thrilled I am to have him finally publish a book.

A couple of months ago I had the opprotunity to see Eric alongside other greats such as Andreas Deja, Pete Doctor and James Baxter as they talked about Mentoring in animation. None of them had directly studied under the 9 Old Men of Disney but each talked about how incredibly influential they were and how much they learned from their work, either directly or indirectly. James Baxter mentioned that everything you need to know about animating is in The Illusion of Life and Richard William's The Animator's Survival Kit. He said with those two books you have everything you need to know and it was up to you to do your homework. I'd like to add that Preston Blair's books as well as Tony White's books are also substantially helpful, and I have every hope in the world that Eric Goldberg's book will take and hold it's place alongside those books. I of course pre-ordered it via Amazon.com and I have to admit that when the target date of July 15 came and the book didn't go out I was disappointed. You know, the kind of disappointment you get when you ask Santa for a transformer for Christmas and he gives you a GoBot? Yeah, like that. But I anxiously look forward to this book.

Thank you Eric. Thank you for your hard work, your brilliance and now thank you for sharing it all with us in a format that will live on long beyond us all.
